Who are the 25 most influential engineers today?

Posted on 19 October 2008

By Nick Smith, Management Editor, E&T magazine

Next January, by way of celebrating our first complete year as a fortnightly magazine, E&T will be publishing a feature article about the 25 most influential engineers currently working in our industry sectors. We'll be compiling a long-list based on the opinions and expertise of the individual sector editors on the magazine.

And while this is a good start, we really want to involve the membership in the drawing up of the long-list, which will then get whittled down to a short-list of 25. So we need your help. It isn't intended to be a definitive list, or an official IET ranking - it is simply a journalistic snapshot of who we think as a community are leading the way in management, design, manufacturing, electronics, power... in fact any sector of engineering at all.

There are a couple of rubrics however. First, the nominees must be living and active in their field (we might do a poll of all-time greats later on), and it's not a charter simply to say oily things about your boss (no matter how tempting that may be). You don't have to nominate 25 each (that's the overall target number we're hoping to profile, but any multiple suggestions will be well received).

Please do tell us their full name, the company they work for and in what capacity. You should also back-up your nomination with a sentence or two about why you feel that individual is so influential, highlighting what you consider to be their outstanding achievements...

The way to file your nominations is by going to the IET management forum on this website and to leave your posting on the 'Search for the 25 most influential living engineers...' thread. Or you could simply follow this link

We need your suggestion by 14 November 2008. Lets have your ideas. You never know, it could become an annual event.
