Mobile phones are an essential tool in our daily lives; can you imagine your working life without one?
They are becoming increasingly important in developing countries, and a study paper by London Business School and economist Leonard Waverman found that for each 10 per cent rise in ownership of a mobile, a 0.6 per cent growth in growth domestic product per person takes place.
In practice however figures are falling with gross domestic product growth being only 5 per cent in 2008, whereas it was nearly 7 per cent in 2007.
Even with these figures, mobiles are changing lives. They are improving businesses, family relationships and health thanks to vaccination reminders sent by text.
There’s more information in the magic of mobile phones article in the last E&T magazine.
