Currently state side standards around ethernet equipment have been a bit of a best endeavors affair and no official equipment certification exists.  But with the event of super high speed 40 and 100 gigabit connections the Ethernet Alliance is rising to the challenge.

With no official standards body or enforcement, the Ethernet Alliance works with ethernet vendors to develop equipment prior to standards development and after they are developed for adoption and advocacy.

Perhaps more poignantly to the current political and physical climate, standards are also looking at making ethernet more energy efficient, something surely all providers can get behind.

Given the governments Digital Britain plans and the fact some people are not even on dial-up connection what do you think of the future of super fast connections?  Let us know your thoughts.
