It was good to see that there was a very wide range of experience present, from none at all to many years running own Limited Companies.
As the talk had been advertised as a "Consultants' Forum", I began the talk by covering major considerations, so we could use it as an agenda and open it to discussion in a more structured way for me to summarise afterwards.
Fortuitously the AV system froze on me, just three slides before the end, so we had the forum earlier than I had planned, but it worked very well and AV control came back to use the last few slides to help with the summary.
A number of issues seemed very important locally. I was questioned hard on "How to keep up to date", "How to make and keep Contacts", "How to limit liability" (reference cost of insurance etc) and "Time Management". All good questions, and of course there is no easy solution to any of them, but there were some useful practical suggestions from the more experienced people.
One of my recommendations for would-be Consultants is to take advantage of the extensive training and assistance offered to start-ups by their local Business Link.
