The Kleen energy plant in Connecticut, USA was only 95% complete and due to be fully functional in the summer of this year. The owners are unsure how many people were actually on site as numerous contractors had staff working on the unfinished power plant. Reports suggest that 50 workers were around at the time of the explosion and this terrible accident is sure to cause such tragedy for many of these people and their families.
It is said that the accident was caused by a leak during a test of a natural gas plant under construction. The pipeline running near the plant exploded sending a shock wave felt up to 30 miles away from the site. Many people have compared what they felt to that of an earthquake! There has been substantial damage to the buildings with searches still underway for potential casualties.
It was only November last year when we heard of a similar incident at the Dungeness B plant in Kent. Could safety experts do more to ensure these tragedies don't happen again in the future?
Once the site has been made safe, experts will go in and asses what caused this fatal incident.
