CCTV is everywhere, it’s a fact of modern life in the UK and it is expanding its grip across the world. Add to that the amount of increasing data online and the use of mobile phones, this means the amount of information that may need to be processed when analysing a crime can now exceed the bounds of physical capability.

So, the multimedia community has developed new electronic solutions for the management of large collections of video footage, images, audio and other multimedia content, knowledge extraction and categorization, pattern recognition, indexing and retrieval, searching, browsing and visualisation, and modelling and simulation in various domains.

The aim of the multimedia in forensics 2009 workshop looks to be addressing the multimedia toolbox supporting the forensic process from the prevention of crime, capturing and annotation of the crime scene, the investigation of the data in the lab, up to the presentation of the results in court. It’s a new endeavour to bring multimedia tools in to this field.

This event looks to be relevant to researchers working on innovative technology, representatives from companies developing tools, and forensic investigators in various disciplines.

Are you going to attend this new event or are you working in the field and have a view on what it is trying to achieve? If so, let us know.
