UK-based Energy Optimizers has launched a meter that delivers data on the power consumption of appliances wirelessly using Bluetooth.
Costing around £60, the Plogg Blu sits between the mains power socket and the plug for an electrical appliance and sends data on current, voltage, power consumption and electricity cost per hour to a Bluetooth client. The Bluetooth device can turn off power to the appliance.
Energy Optimizers has written software to provide bar charts of power consumption over time for PCs and mobile devices. Energy data can also be imported into Excel for further manipulation.
Shaun Merrick, general manager of Energy Optimizers, claimed: “With today’s energy prices, Plogg can pay for itself quickly by identifying possible energy savings. Because energy prices are likely to continue to rise, its value will increase further over time.”
